Containing Le Canzoni Eroiche, Le Lugubri, le Sagre, Le Morali, Canzonette Amorose e Morali, Scherzi, Sonetti, Epitaffi, Vendemmie, Egloghe e Sermoni and Poemetti Profani e Sacri. One of the greatest poets of his century, a student of the Greeks, and called the "Italian Pindar." He was also a devout and popular Catholic figure and the book bears the imprimatur of Pope Urbanus VIII who was a fan. Columbia University library binding, old, marble boards and brown cloth spines with gilt. Spines trifle worn at the tips, normal library marks (no pockets or signs thereof). End papers are the typical fragile high acid papers of the 19th century and are brittle and cracking at the hinges, Vol. I has a chip out of fep, on Vol. III there is a small hole in one endpaper. Paper of the books is nice quality rag with minimal foxing, beautiful engraving, very clean and nice. A lovely copy of a scarce set.; Ex-Library; 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall
