Price: $35.00

First edition, first state binding of mid-green cloth with gold spine block, blue top edge. 299 pp, introduction by A.J.A. Symons. Written by a "Catholic outcast" who was befriended by ex-pat English families in Venice, the stories were considered too libelous in 1909 to be published, and had to wait until after Rolfe's death, and the death of many of the people he portrays in his stories, to see the light of day. Dark green cloth cover has been bleached along the spine hinge on the rear, as well as a small spot at the top of the front hinge cover. Otherwise mild wear to the cover, slight foxing/oxidation to the end papers and fly pages, top edge is dusty, otherwise very good.; 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall
