350 pp. Frontis plate Tsar Nicholas II. n.d. c1925, 6th edition. By the Last French Ambassador to the Russian Court. Opens with a recounting of a trip on the royal yacht in which Nicholas says to Paleologue, "Unless she has gone out of her mind althogether Germany will never attack Russia, France and England combined." Lots of personal details about life in pre-revolutionary Russia, diplomatic impressions, small bits of fascinating details (Rasputin run over by a troika but emerges with only a scraped forehead), etc. Dark red cloth with gilt spine bit rubbed, spine tips dusted, dusty top edge, marks and crinkled front end paper, first fly has a 1" hole, fore-edges of pages have occasional small flaps from mis-cutting, paper bit browned, otherwise good.; 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall
