Quantity: 1 available

xiv + 322 pp. Index, bibliography. Very scarce first edition of a very scarce book, the first exposition of the logic of the great medieval philosopher, William of Ockham. "His reputation, as the foremost of the nominalists and as the mediaeval philosopher whose thought was in many respects responsible for fundamental and characteristic attitudes and methods in modern science, exhibits him as the most significant philosopher of the later Middle Ages." Brown cloth with gilt spine is rubbed at edges, spine head & tail bit frayed. Interior pages are creamy, very neat owner's inscription dated 1940, Berkeley, and very neat pencil underlining and marginalia throughout (perhaps 10% of the pages), otherwise well-cared for and valued, but read. Hinges strong and intact, binding strong. A pleasant copy of an exceedingly scarce and important scholarly book.; 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall
