iv (Index) + 290 pp + many pages ads. Volumes XII, Numbers 1 - 12. Very hard to come by, the only American medical journal written and edited by women physicians and surgeons. Although there are many articles on "women's health" issues, the slant is medicine in all its specialities, not simply ob/gyn. Sample articles include Cancer Treated by X-Ray, Etiology of Pott's Disease of the Spine; Gastroposis; Hepatic Contusion Caused by Collision with a street Car; Labor followed by Hemorrhage and Eclamptic Symptoms; Mecca Pilgrims in Quarantine; Meckel's Diverticulum; Report of a Case of Idiopathic Dropsy; Septicemia and the Curette; Small Pox and Vaccination; Tuberculous Pericardities; Varicose Veins in the Right Upper Extremity in a Child, etc. Contributors include Anderson, Ardery, Blakelidge, Braunwarth, Bush, Butin, Carpenter, Colby, Cox, Fuchs, Cnewkow, Goodsell, Greenfield, Greer, Handshaw, Heise, Hill, Kinner, Kistlir, Konrad, Ladora, Mead, Neff, Newell, Patrick, Paullin, Plymptom, Root, Rutledge, Shane, Wanzer, Wetmore, Wilson (and others not listed). Plentiful ads, a few in full color. My favorite is an ad for Dioxogen, A Powerful Antiseptic and Disinfectant, "Bottles Do Not Explode". An excellent primary source for history of women in medicine, as well as fascinating research and look at medicine at turn of the 20th century America. Dark blue cloth library binding with gilt to spine has a bit of shelf wear, some dusting to the spine, interior front end paper has a library bindery stamp, otherwise clean and sturdy. Very nice copy, very hard to find.; 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall
