By: Gay, John (1685-1732)

Price: $160.00

Quantity: 1 available

Book Condition: Good with no dust jacket

260 pp + 272 pp. Frontis plates in both volumes. With the signature of George Weare Brakenridge (1775-1856), the noted English antiquarian, on the first fly of each volume. These are the first two volumes of the four volume set and contain Gay's poems, not his plays or fables (we particularly enjoyed the "To A Young Lady,With Some Lampreys". Gay was especially noted for the Beggar's Opera. In what appears to be full period leather, boards detached and rubbed at edges, spines have five raised bands, spine covers worn, red spine labels, label on Vol I partly chipped away. Interior have Brakenridge's signature on both first flies, end pages foxed, another contemporary signature on each title page, some light foxing throughout but otherwise clean and nice. Books have the aroma of old pipes. Scarce and unusual set, especially nice with the Brakenridge association.; 16mo - over 5¾" - 6¾" tall
