First edition. all published of Waterhouse's second work after his 1780 Leiden dissertation, and his first to appear in the U.S. Disbound, title page cut at the top (to remove a signature), title page chipped around edges, foxing and soiling, two inch horizontal tear. Last page has some small ink spots at the top edge, one inch tear at top edge. The other pages have scattered foxing, crispy edges. No binding, old sewing holding quires together. Scarce. Waterhouse (1754-1846) was a prominent American physician, the first to test the smallpox vaccine (on his own family), roomed with John Adams at university, and was a professor at Rhode Island College (Brown) and at Harvard.; 8vo - over 7" - 9" tall
