153 pp. Lacks map. Apparent 1st edition with no other printings or editions noted. Scarce and important original source on early gold discoveries in the West, with advice for the traveler including a day-by-day itinerary of the route from Fort Benton, on the Missouri River, through the mountains to Walla Walla in Washington Territory. According to Streeter "one of the best features of the Guide is its `Addenda' at pp. [89]-153 which is devoted primarily to the then recent developments in gold and silver mining in Idaho. There are many extracts from contemporary newspaper accounts." Mid-brown cloth is stamped , rubbed and bit bumped at corners, spine gilt just barely legible, spine tips bit worn. Interior endpapers aged with small stains. Small damp stain at top front edge page 140-last end paper, some pages rough cut, occasional foxing and small stain but paper is surprisingly clean and crisp. Back hinge just starting at top, otherwise good. ; Small 8vo
