D J is browned, chipping at edges, separating at joints top and bottom of spine, back of DJ separated, flaps present (DJ protected in Mylar). Book itself is clean, just a bit of wear at corners, interior has institutional library stamp on inside front cover and title page, pocket at rear, otherwise clean and unmarked. The mysterious German resident of Mexico, author of Treasure of the Sierra Madre, copyrighted this work in 1939 (it was first published in Sweden) , then in this official first edition in German, later published in English as "A General Comes Out of the Jungle" -- part of a series of "jungle" books, documenting the suffering of Mexican Indians in the state of Chiapas in the early 20th century who are forced to work under inhuman conditions at clearing mahogany in labour camps (monterias) in the jungle.
