English Short Title Catalog, ESTCN18682. First Brown Edition. The work is in good antiquarian condition. Front boards detached, others tender. Smooth leather of the period bit rubbed at the corners, spines somewhat worn and rough but still handsome. The books are octavo, measuring 5” x 8”. The first volume has an old institutional book plate and, interestingly, a letter regarding Bossuet and Tertullian, in English with some French, that is actually tipped in at the front before the first blank. The letter may have been written by Joseph Mendham, from whose famous and extensive collection this work is from, or may have been bound in by him. Interiors are clean with very minor aging and wear. Book blocks solid. Pagination is 480 pages plus extensive index and errata and 493 pages plus extensive unpaginated index, as well ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall
