viii + 9-384 pp. Frontis plate of A. Proudfit with tissue protector. A look at the life and times of Alexander Moncrief Proudfit (1770-1843). He entered the ministry of the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church and was made pastor of the congregation at Salem, N.Y., in 1795 (following his father) where he lived until 1835, when he became agent of the American Colonization Society. He resigned that post in 1842 and died in 1843. Dark brown ribbed Victorian cloth has blindstamped floral design to covers, spine gilt is bright, corners of boards are rubbed, spine top is chipped, spine bottom has lost 1.5" of the backstrip. Interior is clean, foxed throughout, signatures showing but sturdy. Hard to find. ; Small 8vo
