Price: $150.00

Quantity: 1 available

Book Condition: Good in Good dust jacket

207 pp. Appendix. 96 portraits in b/w selected by Karsh. This is the 1st edition, with "magnificent portraits reproduced by sheet-fed gravure" done at the house of Enschede in Haarlem, Holland. With dust jacket, a bold black and scarlet printed on cream paper, in good condition with a library sticker at bottom spine, not price-clipped, in Mylar. Includes a loose leaf flyer describing the printing process. Interior black cloth covers are bright and clean, interior has pencil owner's inscription and date of purchase. All clean inside but some of the pages are coming loose which is not at all unusual for this 1st edition. One reason the 1st edition binding is so delicate is because a special thermoplastic binding rather than sewing was utilized to give a little extra room to the plates -- the ink used to print the photographs was specially developed for this book and was a softer than normal ink which is more fragile than normal inks. A fragile but beautiful survival, the photographs are stunning in their intensity and it is amazing to see so many iconic portraits taken by Karsh in one place. ; 4to 11" - 13" tall; 207 pages
