Saint Dorotheus's works are very uncommon in commerce and this one is no exception. No auction records at all and no other copies for sale. Dorotheus of Gaza (Abba Dorotheus or Dorotheus the Archimandrite) (505-565? ) was a Christian monk who founded his own monastery near Gaza and became its abbott. It was to the monks of this monastery that he addressed his teachings of which a considerable number have survived. His teaching had the sole aim of edifying those to whom it was addressed: elegance and style were not his interest. Thus, his words were uncontrived, clear and simple and in his thought, theology and the practical-ascetic life coexisted. A Catholic as well as an Orthodox saint, but Dorotheus is especially revered in the Eastern Church. Translated out of the Greek into Latin. An attractive 1616 edition of the wonderful works of the humble mystical ascetic, Dorotheus of Gaza. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 296 pages
